Brief Biography

Dr. Yuan obtained B.S. from Department of Physics, University of Science and Technology of China in 1985, M.S. from Department of Physics, Texas A&M University 1986 and Ph.D. from Department of Electrical Engineering, Texas A&M University in 1991. He worked in the U.S. technology industry before he joined Tsinghua University as a faculty member. His contributions include: Design and implementation of a wireless ATM (WATMnet) system at NEC Laboratories America, Inc., design the packet switching architecture of satellite cell-relay system at BBN Technologies, and architect the first IPsec-based VPN service for GTE Internetworking.

Dr. Yuan has written over twenty journal and referred conference papers, and co-authored the technical book: Virtual Private Networks - Technologies and Solutions (Addison-Wesley, 2001). He holds 6 U.S. patents in the area of communication and networking.

Research interests: network security, wireless sensor network, networked multimedia communication and complex system dynamics.
